Descent enough

I laughed out loud at your character's demise, so I think it deserves a passing grade. Avoid stick people next time.

Great as it is

Apparently a bunny shooting a man in the face isn't violent enough to be "mild".

Listen people, you know why this is short? Because that's all the time this artist needed to tell the story. Leave it at that. Some of the humour that makes this animation great is its speed, the BAM!ness of it.

Another Classic

This is one of the most quotable animations by Firth. I remember greatly annoying my girlfriend with my constant "You! Are you a crime... inal? A criminal?" This is also the first Flash by Firth that is more amusing than disturbing. By far, this is my favourite series and I hope to see it run as long as it can.

There are two versions of Episode 1, each differentiated by the music used. This version is the original. I find that the music is an important part in making this cartoon a whole. The introductory fanfare makes a subtle hint towards the absurdity to follow. The organ music that plays during the "action" sequences parody action hero drama humorously. The second version of the cartoon, which can be found at Burnt Face Man's website, has the "classic" BFM theme that is heard in the later episodes.

A Classic

It's hard for me to remember my first reaction to this animation, since this was submitted almost 2 years ago. Since then, I think I have become desensitized to it. 29 animations by David Firth can do that to a person. Nevertheless, "Salad Fingers" has become a phrase of a symbolic nature, instantly recognized as all things mind-bendingly creepy and dissonant.

If there is one feeling that I can say for certain that I felt, it would be disturbed. It's not simply the fact that Salad Fingers reminds me of a sick pedophile; it's my fascination with all things decayed and rotten. Why is Salad Fingers the way he is? What sort of dystopia does he thrive on in that vast wasteland? Why does the child communicate in shrieks?

Nothing about this animation is normal. But, as one continues through the Salad Fingers series, it is clear that the abnormalities are just getting started.

Reviewing them all...

I'm always greatly anticipating the next Firth creation, but I never bother to write a review. I think I'll start today...

This being Firth's first submission, you can see he hasn't mastered his art as we know it. Many of the elements which have become the epitome of Firth cartoons - a dystopian universe, creepy vocals and ambience, and a surrealist plotline - are not present in this cartoon. Instead, we have a simple, biographical plot about "Scribbler". If this cartoon was sat beside some of his later works like Salad Fingers or Spoilsbury Toastboy, one would venture that this was created by another artist. Nevertheless, it is still a quality animation. Firth's already well-developed style is seen being transferred into the realm of Flash animation. But, this animation really shows no hint of the insanity to come.

Mind-boggly.

No matter how disturbing or mind-boggling your stories are, the quality of your animating is superb. I've always enjoyed your style - something about it is aesthetically pleasing - and the audio quality is always top-notch.

Preloader & Lip-Sync

Blah blah blah, preloader, blah blah blah, lip-sync. Do what everyone else says. Your graphics were awesome, by the way.

Gore ga-lore!

I was wondering how you created the blood effect? It doesn't look like clay. I was thinking wax. Either way... WOW! That's a LOT of blood! I've never seen a gorier claymation. Well done.

Voodoo-Samurai responds:

It's a mix of cornstarch, water and red food coloring.

Thanks!

Wocka wocka wocka

I can see why this made Front Page. Meh. Why not?

Piece of crap.

I hated it more than Jesus hates the non-meek. I am now wretching in a bucket. I hope you're happy, you goo-spewing hog's butt.

"What say you, your neutralness?" "I have no strong feelings one way or the other."
